Shannon Jackson, known as The People's Nurse, emphasized early testing, accurate diagnosis, and caregiver education while highlighting that real Alzheimer’s cases likely exceed reported figures.

Los Angeles, CA – [Insert Date] – Shannon Jackson, widely recognized as The People's Nurse, delivered powerful lessons on Alzheimer's during her recent LA Care classes. Drawing on more than three decades of nursing experience, she educated community members on the realities of Alzheimer's, the importance of prevention, and the role of caregivers.

During her sessions, Shannon highlighted alarming statistics: 719.7 thousand people diagnosed. That’s a lot. We are also leading the pack in the 50 states as of 2020.” She reminded participants that reported numbers do not always show the full picture and predicted that current cases are likely much higher.

She also spoke about the importance of early testing and accurate diagnosis so that patients receive the right care at the right time. She explained that confusion in older adults does not always mean Alzheimer’s. She gave the example of untreated urinary tract infections, which can spread into the blood and cause serious confusion. She encouraged participants to request laboratory tests in such cases.

In another session, Shannon highlighted the role of nutrition in brain health. She introduced the MIND Diet and encouraged participants to “Eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish, beans, lean meats, eat less sugar, fried foods, fatty foods. She explained that moderation works better than strict rules, which often lead people to abandon healthy changes.

Shannon also touched on the emotional side of caregiving. Reflecting on her decades of nursing, she said, “I’ve taken care of so many people, all walks of life… when you hear the stories of where they were and who they are now, a shell of themselves, it’s heartbreaking. It’s absolutely heartbreaking.” She encouraged caregivers to stay patient and calm, saying, “Talk gently, look at pictures, take walks, show love even if they forget your name.”
