MAY manufactures durable, repairable parasols in Germany. High-quality materials, modular design and resource-efficient production support long service life and sustainable outdoor solutions.

Betzenweiler, October 2026. In the catering and hospitality sectors, sustainability in outdoor settings is measured primarily by the service life of the products used. There is a demand for solutions that can withstand daily wear and tear, are repairable and can be operated economically in the long term.
“Our aim is to manufacture parasols that are sustainable thanks to their long service life,” explains Managing Director Klaus-Peter May. This is based on high-quality materials, controlled manufacturing processes and a consistent focus on reparability.
MAY has been manufacturing exclusively at its Betzenweiler site in southern Germany since 1983. With a high degree of vertical integration, over 160 employees and decades of experience, the company produces parasols there for long-term use in professional outdoor settings.
For the frames, the company relies on low-corrosion materials such as aluminium and stainless steel. These are considered weather-resistant, low-maintenance and therefore suitable for intensive use in the catering, hospitality and commercial sectors. At the same time, they can be returned to the recycling cycle.
A key factor in terms of service life is the modular design of the parasols. Canopies, ribs, gearboxes and electronic components can be replaced individually, often directly on site and without the need for complex interventions. This reduces maintenance costs, avoids unnecessary purchases of complete units and minimises downtime during operation.
MAY also adheres to defined standards in terms of quality and safety. The fabrics used are, amongst other things, tested in accordance with the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, REACH-compliant and offer UV protection in accordance with UV Standard 801. Furthermore, the company is certified for welding in accordance with DIN EN ISO 3834-3. This ensures that welding processes are monitored and documented – a key factor in maintaining consistent quality, stability and durability.
MAY also pursues a clear sustainability strategy in its production. Short transport routes, manufacturing at the Betzenweiler site and the company’s own energy generation via photovoltaics all help to conserve resources. When the sun is shining, the company can be entirely self-sufficient; when solar output is low, electricity is sourced from hydropower.
For businesses in the catering and hospitality sectors, sustainability in outdoor areas is primarily reflected in durable, easy-to-repair and cost-effective solutions that stand the test of time in day-to-day use. With this in mind, MAY supports the professional catering sector as a reliable partner in the design of sustainable outdoor spaces.
