FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., October 1, 2026 — My Flight Time, a flight training academy based at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport (KFXE), is helping licensed pilots take their next professional step through its Certified Flight Instructor program. The 4–6 week course teaches pilots how to pass on what they already know, preparing them to earn the Certified Flight Instructor certificate, build paid flight hours, and keep moving toward an airline career.
For most career-track pilots, instructing is the bridge between earning ratings and landing an airline seat. It's where the hours come from. But it does something less obvious, too. Explaining a steep turn or a stall recovery to a nervous student forces you to understand it better than you ever did on your own checkride. Teaching sharpens the teacher, and the Certified Flight Instructor program is built around that idea.
What the Certified Flight Instructor Program Includes
The core training includes 10 hours of dual flight instruction in a Cessna 172 or Piper Archer. Candidates fly from the right seat, the instructor's seat, and learn to demonstrate maneuvers properly, explain procedures clearly, and correct student errors in real time.
On the ground, candidates complete 20 hours of dedicated instruction with one of the school's experienced instructors. These sessions focus on lesson planning, practical teaching techniques, and clear communication, so new instructors can present complex aviation concepts in a way students actually understand.
The program also covers testing and written exam preparation for the Certified Flight Instructor certification. Mock orals and stage checks take place on site, so candidates walk into their practical test knowing what to expect.
Program at a glance:
Duration: 4–6 weeks
Flight training: 10 hours of dual instruction ($2,750)
Ground training: 20 hours with an experienced instructor ($1,500)
Total program cost: $4,250 (books and exam fees are extra)
Next steps: CFII and MEI training also available
Year-Round Flying in Busy Airspace
Fort Lauderdale is a strong place to train, and an even better place to instruct. KFXE and the surrounding fields in Broward and Miami-Dade counties operate year-round, so new instructors build hours through steady daily flying rather than seasonal bursts. With Class B and Class C airspace right next door, candidates get regular practice in busy, complex environments. That exposure produces confident instructors who are attractive to employers.
The school's fleet is available for right-seat practice from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, seven days a week. High aircraft availability and in-house maintenance help keep training on schedule instead of stuck waiting in the hangar.
Strong Demand for New Instructors in South Florida
Broward County and northern Miami-Dade host one of the densest concentrations of flight training in the United States. For a new Certified Flight Instructor, that matters. Graduates aren't fighting over a handful of local openings, and many of the academy's own instructors chose to stay on at KFXE after finishing their training.
Enrollment
Pilots interested in becoming a Certified Flight Instructor can apply online or reach the admissions team by phone or email. The school is currently offering a limited-time $500 discount on full training packages, while availability lasts.
