Northgate Animal Hospital, a family-founded veterinary practice at 1600 Hamill Rd., is highlighting its full range of pet care services and its dedicated cat-friendly approach for families across Hixson and the greater Chattanooga area. Built in 1982 by Dr. Jim Hammon and Dr. Randy Hammon, the hospital has served local pet owners for more than four decades.

The hospital provides care for both dogs and cats, beginning with wellness exams, vaccinations, and parasite prevention. Diagnostic services, dentistry, laser surgery, and laser spay and neuter procedures support pets through every stage of treatment, while nutrition guidance and senior pet care address the needs of aging companions. Cats receive a distinct experience through Northgate Cat Care. A separate cat waiting area keeps feline patients away from barking dogs, loud noises, and unfamiliar smells before appointments begin. Three cat-first exam rooms are equipped with calming Feliway diffusers, and in-room scales allow cats to be weighed without being moved through the hospital. The result is a quieter, calmer visit designed to reduce stress for cats and the people who bring them in.

The team brings feline-focused training to every visit. A certified cat-friendly veterinarian and medical staff use gentle, low-stress handling techniques, and Churu treats help cats form positive associations with the clinic. Take-home calming medications are available for especially anxious cats before travel and appointments. Dr. Juliana Ramirez, who has a special interest in feline medicine, and members of the support staff belong to the Feline Veterinary Medical Association, and Dr. Emma Brooks is a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners.

Leadership comes from four co-owning veterinarians Dr. Jim Hammon, Dr. Randy Hammon, Dr. Yvonne Ward, and Dr. Christopher Perry alongside associate veterinarians Dr. Ramirez and Dr. Brooks. Drs. Jim and Randy Hammon are Certified Veterinary Journalists who have shared pet care information through newspapers, radio, and television for more than 40 years. The hospital is AAHA-accredited and open Monday through Friday.
