Nubokind, an Indian baby products brand for infants aged 0 to 12 months, today shared what parents across India have been saying about its high-contrast cloth book set. The feedback, left by parents on the Nubokind website, points to one clear pattern: the books have become part of the daily tummy time routine for newborns.
Tummy time is one of the first things new parents are told to do, and one of the hardest to keep up. Many babies fuss within a minute or two of being placed on their stomach. Parents writing about the cloth books describe a different experience. "We use them every day during the tummy time," one parent wrote. Another described the set as "perfect for our 2-month-old during tummy time," adding that the visuals keep her engaged.
The reason lies in how newborn vision develops. In the first weeks of life, a baby sees bold black and white patterns far more clearly than colour or fine detail. High-contrast pages give a newborn something they can actually focus on, which gives them a reason to lift their head and look. That is the effort that builds the neck and shoulder strength needed for rolling and sitting.
Several themes come up again and again in what parents share:
- Faces and patterns hold attention. Parents often name the faces and patterns books as their baby's favourites. Newborns are drawn to face-like patterns from birth, and one parent of twins wrote that both babies "just love faces and puzzles."
- Texture and sound add a second sense. Crinkle pages and a squeaker inside the books come up often. "Crinkle sound helps baby to engage more with the book," one parent noted.
- Soft, safe fabric matters. Parents describe the books as soft, lightweight, baby-safe and easy for small hands to hold and explore.
- They make a thoughtful gift. Some parents bought the set for a baby shower or a relative's newborn, and describe it as a useful alternative to the usual toys a new baby receives.
"When we designed the cloth books, we built them around what a newborn can actually see and do in the first weeks," said Aditya Chopra, Founder of Nubokind. "The most rewarding thing for us is hearing that parents reach for them every single day. A product for a newborn only works if it fits into the routine, and tummy time is where these books have found their place."
For parents looking for more ideas, Nubokind has also published a guide to tummy time toys for newborns, covering what to use at each stage and how to make tummy time easier for both baby and parent:
