Owl and Jest, an independent publisher of humor books, has released How to Deal With Your Disappointingly Small Penis, a 120-page paperback that parodies the self-help genre. The book is available now on Amazon in the US for $12.99 and in the UK for £9.99.

Rather than mocking self-help from the outside, the book imitates it closely. It adopts the reassuring voice, structured chapters, and confident advice found in mainstream self-improvement titles, and is credited to a fictional author. The comedy comes from applying that format, without a trace of irony, to a subject few people would choose to read about in public.

Owl and Jest believes that contrast is what makes the book suited to gift exchanges. "When someone unwraps it, the reaction is immediate," said Miranda Wright, spokesperson for Owl and Jest. "But we didn't want it to be a one-second joke. It's a complete book, and people tend to keep reading once they've stopped laughing at the cover."

The book is aimed at the seasonal novelty gift market, including office Secret Santa exchanges in the UK and White Elephant parties in the US, where guests try to bring the most talked-about present. Owl and Jest expects demand to be strongest in the run-up to Christmas, with further interest around April Fools' Day and for stag and bachelor parties.

"We'd always say know your audience," Wright added. "It's a lighthearted gift, but not every office party is the right setting for it."

The book is a parody intended as humor and does not provide medical advice.
