Paumanok Veterinary Hospital today announced the addition of Dr. Kelly Tierney, DVM, to its team of veterinarians. Dr. Tierney brings more than a decade of veterinary experience and a clinical focus on feline medicine, small mammal care, nutrition, and geriatric patients to the practice, where she begins seeing patients this week.
A native of Oceanside who spent her summers growing up in the Hamptons, Dr. Tierney's return to Long Island brings her full circle — both personally and professionally.
“We could not be more excited to welcome Dr. Tierney to Paumanok,” said Dawn Martins practice manager at Paumanok Veterinary Hospital. “Her clinical strengths in feline and senior pet care, paired with the warm, relationship-driven approach she brings to every visit, make her an immediate asset to the families we serve.”
Dr. Tierney earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of Prince Edward Island — one of Canada's leading veterinary programs. Before veterinary school, she spent several years working in a local animal hospital, an experience she credits with shaping her understanding of what clients and patients need most from their veterinary team.
That hands-on foundation, combined with her formal training, has shaped a practice philosophy centered on building real relationships — with pets and the people who love them. Her clinical interests center on feline medicine, small mammal care, nutrition, and geriatric patients, areas of care that often call for a measured, attentive approach and a patient hand in the exam room.
“Cats and senior pets are two of the most under-advocated-for patients in veterinary medicine,” Dr. Tierney said. “They need a vet who will slow down, listen, and tailor care to where they are in life. I'm grateful to be joining a hospital that takes the time to do those visits right, and I'm excited to help build something even stronger for the Long Island families we serve.”
Outside the clinic, Dr. Tierney is an avid hiker, beach lover, and national park enthusiast. She shares her life with her husband James, also a veterinarian, their three children, and two cats — Swiss Miss and Parsnip.
Dr. Tierney is now accepting new patients at Paumanok Veterinary Hospital. Appointments can be scheduled at 631-475-1312 or at https://www.paumanokvethospital.com/
