So this a follow up of our previous article published for general public where I gave the example of how to answer the Scholarship question what makes you worthy of this opportunity versus your peers.
In the interview anticipate and hope you are asked something along these lines?
What about your peers who have more dual enrollments than you and maybe 1 less high school internship opportunity or none at all compared to you?
Answer: Great Question, so there are applicants from states such as Florida are allowed 60 free dual enrollments however they have almost no high school internship opportunities and the ones they do have are highly specialized and don’t cover most basic areas such as business, stem, liberal arts all at once and are scattered throughout the state. I still hold the advantage because first although I have less dual enrollments having too much creates many problems. Example in California If I have 30 credits, I’m a sophomore day one of university, a peer of mine from Florida that has 60 credits they are a junior day one and sure they may have all their gen Ed’s completed. If they don’t have that day in the life experience from the high school internships like I have and they need to pivot to another major, if they are on scholarship that company just took a catastrophic loss.
Also, my mindset isn’t just try many high school internships out until the right one fits, it’s more like this example if I’m a business major its so broad if freshman year high school, I do an internship that focuses on sales and management and I like business just not high-level management. I can still do business but I need to find another specialty or opportunities under business such as if Sophomore year high school I did a marketing internship and liked being group leader. I can get a business degree with marketing as a minor or do marketing degree with business admin as a minor. My peer mentioned in this example from Florida cant do that so easily. Additionally, if I decided to pivot away from business, the next internship I do while in high school will match the new major.
Finally, most undervalued advantage I hold is simple if I apply for college admission in Florida, I have numerous high school internships and in the perception of a state that doesn’t have numerous opportunities such as California I still stand out and will be given priority in admissions and scholarships. Meanwhile if my peer from Florida applies and attend California University on paper, they have 60 credits but a lot of large universities have cutoff limits for how many they accept and without any high school internship opportunities they would probably start off as a sophomore like I would and competing for scholarships to cover out of state tuition increase is going to be brutal.
