What is Ovarian Torsion?
Ovarian torsion, also known as adnexal torsion, happens when an ovary (sometimes along with the fallopian tube) rotates around its supporting ligaments. This twist restricts or completely blocks blood flow to the ovary, leading to intense pain and potential tissue damage.
This condition is often associated with ovarian cysts or other abnormalities that increase the ovary’s weight, causing it to twist. Immediate medical intervention is essential, and ovarian torsion surgery is often the recommended course of action.

Causes of Ovarian Torsion
There are several factors that contribute to ovarian torsion causes, including:

Ovarian cysts or masses
Enlarged ovaries due to fertility treatments
Pregnancy
Congenital abnormalities of the reproductive organs
Sudden body movements or trauma
Both left ovarian torsion and right ovarian torsion can occur, although right-sided torsion is slightly more common due to anatomical reasons.
