Delhi, October 1: Prominent Shia cleric Maulana Hasan Ali Rajani commented on the case involving the death sentences handed down to six Iranian nationals in Saudi Arabia for drug trafficking, stating that drug trafficking is a serious crime requiring effective legal action. According to the Saudi Ministry of Interior, the death sentences were carried out on January 1, 2025, in the Eastern Province following the completion of judicial proceedings in a hashish smuggling case. Maulana Rajani emphasized that the war against drugs should not be directed against any specific nation, country, or sect, but rather against this dangerous scourge itself. He stressed that transparent investigations, adherence to legal requirements, fair judicial proceedings, and respect for human rights must be ensured in every case. He added that all nations, including Iran and Saudi Arabia, should foster mutual cooperation, information exchange, and diplomatic channels to curb drug trafficking. Similarly, in India, strict and fair action under Indian law should be taken against anyone involved in drug trafficking, regardless of their nationality or religion. Maulana Hasan Ali Rajani further stated that protecting the youth from drugs is a shared responsibility of governments and society, and the rule of law forms the foundation for eradicating this menace.
