Delhi, 2 October: Renowned Shia scholar Maulana Hassan Ali Rajani has termed the attack on the captain during a FlyDubai flight as an extremely serious incident and demanded a complete, transparent and impartial investigation.

Maulana Rajani said that every claim regarding possible links with Iran, financial support and any external patronage must be investigated in depth, and if the role of any Iranian institution or network is proven, tough international action should be taken against those responsible.

He said that in the past, US officials have levelled allegations against Iran-linked individuals for murder conspiracies abroad and offering financial rewards, therefore any possible secret financial or organisational link in the FlyDubai incident should not be ignored.

Maulana Rajani said that any attempt to use passenger aircraft for political violence or terrorism is an extremely serious threat to global civil aviation and international security.

He paid tribute to Indian Captain Smit Machchhar, passengers and crew members, saying their timely action in a dangerous situation played a crucial role in averting a possible major tragedy.

Maulana Rajani demanded full cooperation in the ongoing investigations by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates and that the findings be brought before the public in a transparent manner.

He said that if external patronage, financial backing or pre-planning is proven, strict action should be taken against the responsible individuals and networks under international law.
