Desynthesis is a new crafting ability added in FFXIV: ARR Patch 2.3. Players can break down pre-existing items and raw crafting materials by Desynthesis.

I. Desynthesis Levels
Crafters have their own Desynthesis skill level.

II. Successfully Using Desynthesis
Desynthesis skill level affects not only the chances of successfully breaking down an item but also the materials yielded if you succeed.

III. Retrieving Items

Breaking down an item with Desynthesis will primarily yield materials, which can be used to create the item. On occasion, players will also receive special items that can only be obtained through use of Desynthesis. ● There Special Items can be used in new crafting recipes available in patch 2.3.
