The MINI Cooper has always been the playful side of performance driving. Small dimensions, quick responses and that signature go kart character have been part of its identity for years. Now MINI India has introduced something even more exclusive with the launch of the MINI Cooper S GP Inspired Edition.
The new special edition takes inspiration from the MINI GP, which remains the fastest and most performance focused MINI ever built. India will get only 30 units of this edition, making it a rare sight on roads. The car arrives as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) and is priced at Rs 58.90 lakh ex showroom. Bookings have opened across MINI India dealerships and deliveries have already started.
Power comes from a 2.0 litre MINI TwinPower Turbo petrol engine producing 204 hp and 300 Nm torque. The engine is paired with a 7 speed Double Clutch Steptronic Sport transmission. MINI says the Cooper S GP Inspired Edition can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 242 kmph. Adaptive suspension and JCW Sport Brakes are also part of the package. It is quick, but more than speed it feels built for engagement.
On the outside, the GP Inspired Edition comes finished in Legend Grey paint with Chilli Red highlights across the roof and mirror caps. GP inspired bonnet graphics, side stripes and special 1/30 badging on the C pillar make it stand apart. JCW spoiler extensions, side winglets and rear diffuser add more aggression. The car sits on JCW alloy wheels with red wheel hub detailing. It looks purposeful. A little loud maybe, but that feels intentional.
Inside, the cabin follows a sporty but clean approach. JCW Sport Seats finished in Vescin Black upholstery sit alongside GP inspired floor mats and illuminated door sills. The new JCW steering wheel gets paddle shifters while the dashboard uses recycled textile materials instead of chrome and leather surfaces.
The centrepiece is the 240 mm OLED touchscreen running MINI Operating System 9. Features include wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation, wireless charging, panoramic glass roof, Harman Kardon sound system, Digital Key Plus, Head Up Display and Intelligent Personal Assistant voice control. A fisheye camera inside the cabin also allows users to capture photos and videos. Slightly unusual perhaps, but interesting.
Safety equipment includes front airbags, side curtain airbags, Dynamic Stability Control, Brake Assist, ABS, tyre pressure monitoring, crash sensor and cornering brake control. ADAS Level 1 functions are also included with lane departure warning, front collision warning, attentiveness assistant and reversing assistant. Parking Assistant and rear camera support everyday usability too.
The MINI Cooper S GP Inspired Edition is not trying to be subtle. It takes what already makes a MINI enjoyable and turns it up a bit more. Just 30 buyers will get one, which makes it feel special before it even leaves the showroom.
