Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles has expanded the Tata Altroz iCNG lineup with the addition of an AMT gearbox. This makes it the first premium hatchback in India to offer a CNG powertrain with an automatic transmission.
The design and feature list remain largely unchanged. The main focus of the update is improving daily drivability. Tata says the Altroz iCNG AMT has been tuned to make city driving easier, especially in heavy traffic where buyers no longer have to manage a clutch constantly.
Prices start at Rs 8,69,990 for the Pure variant, followed by the Pure S at Rs 8,99,990, Creative at Rs 9,56,990, Creative S at Rs 9,81,990, and the top-spec Accomplished S at Rs 10,76,990 (all ex-showroom, Delhi). The lower variants focus more on accessibility and practicality. Higher trims add more comfort, technology, and convenience features.
On the design and comfort side, the Tata Altroz iCNG AMT carries forward the same familiar Altroz styling. It gets flush door handles, LED headlamps with DRLs, and connected LED tail lamps.
Inside, the cabin comes with twin digital screens, a soft-touch dashboard, ambient lighting, and rear seats designed for added comfort. Tata has also kept the feature list strong. The hatchback gets a 360-degree HD surround view system, tyre pressure monitoring, auto headlamps, LED fog lamps, and six airbags as standard.
Under the hood, the Tata Altroz iCNG AMT uses a 1.2-litre Revotron engine in CNG mode. It produces 73.5PS and 103Nm of torque. The bigger change, however, is in the driving experience. With the AMT gearbox, the Altroz iCNG should feel more relaxed in city traffic and less tiring in stop-and-go conditions.

Tata has also added a segment-first Direct Start in CNG mode. This allows the car to start directly on CNG without switching to petrol first. The hatchback continues with Tata’s twin-cylinder iCNG setup. The cylinders are placed below the luggage area, which helps free up usable boot space. The Altroz iCNG offers 210 litres of boot space in CNG mode, while the petrol and diesel versions continue to offer 345 litres.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Vivek Srivatsa, Chief Commercial Officer, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., said the Altroz has already built its place in the premium hatchback space through design, safety and powertrain choice. He also pointed out that CNG is growing fast across India, and this update is meant to meet the rising need for more convenience in CNG vehicles without giving up practicality or space. That sums up the move pretty well. It is not a dramatic reinvention, just a useful step that makes the Altroz iCNG easier to consider for more buyers.
