The first oil tanker museum of the world was opened in Surakhani, Baku on March 1st, 2021. The museum was converted from a retired oil tanker which served in Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company for decades.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and first lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the opening ceremony.
In 2017, the Azerbaijani government decided to convert a former oil tanker, operating as an oil refinery in the Caspian Sea Shipping Company (ASCO), Suraxani, into a museum. More than 2,000 local repairmen participated in the refurbishment.The museum display cases made and installed by Chinese supplier, Relicase.
