Expanse Energy's piston hydropower packs baseload clean energy into 40' shipping containers—$2k/kW CAPEX, 84% efficiency, high-density fluid boosts +50%. Deploy in weeks for mining, islands, and resilient microgrids.

Wilmington, DE – October 3, 2025 – Expanse Energy Corporation (EEC), a pioneer in innovative renewable technologies, today announced the launch of its groundbreaking Shipping Container (SC) Modularity Concept for Piston Driven Hydropower Technology (PDHT). This fully containerized system transforms standard 20’ and 40’ high-cube shipping containers into scalable, mobile hydropower plants, delivering continuous, dispatchable clean energy without reliance on dams, rivers, or geographic constraints. Initial prototypes range from 5.6 MW (6-shaft/5-stack) to 16.0 MW (12-shaft/9-stack in 40’ SC), with optional High-Density Fluid (HDF) enhancements boosting output by 50%—up to 24.0 MW—while shrinking footprints by 33% for equivalent performance.
The SC Modularity Concept redefines hydropower accessibility by integrating rectangular pistons, buoyancy-assisted resets, and internal water circulation into rugged ISO-compliant containers. Stacked 5–9 units high (14.5–26 m), these systems generate effective heads of 100–225 m via gravitational descent, driving efficient Pelton turbines with 84% overall efficiency (pre-parasitics). Built to oil-and-gas standards (API RP 2A/ISO 19901) for an 85-year lifespan, the design ensures rugged mobility for remote mining, island grids, disaster relief, and military microgrids—deployable anywhere in weeks, not years.
"Traditional hydropower is site-bound and capital-intensive, leaving billions underserved by clean, baseload energy," said Ed Nichols, CEO of Expanse Energy. "Our SC Modularity Concept changes that: it's Lego-like scalability in a box—stack, ship, and power. At $2,000/kW CAPEX and $0.045/kWh LCOE, it's competitively priced against solar and wind, with zero emissions and 95% availability. With HDF, we unlock 1.5x density for even greater energy sovereignty."
Key features include:
• Modular Stacking: 20’/40’ SCs as single/dual cells, with IPD (Integrated Plunger Design) for super-sized volumes.
• Self-Sustaining Operation: 60% Cross-Piston Assist Power (CPAP) for resets; 1 GW plants, EEC drives sustainable energy access globally. Learn more at www.RRPTHydro.com.
