SAT Prep Platform's Proprietary Data Reveals Why Students Really Fail SAT Module 2: It's Not What Anyone Expected

MyCollegeBook publishes first data-driven study on Digital SAT trap patterns, using timing data from hundreds of real practice tests. The finding: students don't struggle with harder questions. They fall for smarter wrong answers in under 20 seconds.

GURGAON, India — May 25, 2026 — MyCollegeBook, a Digital SAT practice platform built by a former data analytics executive, has published what it believes to be the first empirical study on why students lose points on the harder module of the Digital SAT. The findings challenge the prevailing assumption among students, parents, and coaching companies that Module 2 is difficult because the questions are harder.

They are not. The answer choices are.

The study, based on timing data from hundreds of completed Digital SAT practice tests taken between October 2025 and April 2026, found that SAT Module 2 drops student accuracy by 25 to 30 percent across every tested topic compared to Module 1. But the most striking finding was not the accuracy drop itself. It was what happened to the time students spent on wrong answers.

In Module 1, students who answered incorrectly spent 30 to 40 seconds longer on those questions than students who answered correctly. They sensed the difficulty. They hesitated. They deliberated.

In Module 2, that extra time disappeared entirely.

On Algebra questions, for example, students spent a median of 85 seconds on wrong answers in Module 1, 40 seconds more than on correct answers. In Module 2, they spent 72 seconds on wrong answers. Less time than they spent on the ones they got right.

"In Module 2, students are not struggling," said Shwetank, founder of MyCollegeBook and a former data analytics executive with nearly two decades of experience in data science and business intelligence. "They are confident and wrong. The test writers have engineered answer choices that match how students instinctively read a problem. A student picks an answer in under 20 seconds, feels good about it, and moves on. It's the wrong answer."

The data is published on MyCollegeBook's website and is available to anyone, not just paying users.

THE TRAP, NOT THE TOPIC

The study breaks down accuracy by topic area. In every category (Algebra, Advanced Math, Problem Solving, Geometry, Information and Ideas, Craft and Structure, Standard English Conventions, and Expression of Ideas), Module 2 accuracy fell significantly. The drops ranged from 8 percentage points (Expression of Ideas) to 30 percentage points (Problem Solving).

But the timing data tells a more specific story. In Module 1, wrong answers correlate with longer time-on-question, a pattern consistent with genuine difficulty. In Module 2, wrong answers correlate with normal or even shorter time-on-question, a pattern consistent with trap answers, choices designed to look correct to students who are pattern-matching rather than reasoning.

"Every other SAT platform gives you questions and a score," Shwetank said. "We give you a behavioral profile. Where do you hesitate? Where do you rush? Where are you confident and wrong? That's the data that actually moves scores."

HOW THE PLATFORM WORKS

MyCollegeBook (mycollegebook.org) offers 3,000 original SAT questions across 37 math skills and 13 reading and writing question types, along with 6 full-length mock tests that mirror the Digital SAT's adaptive format. The platform tracks time-on-question, accuracy by topic, and module-level performance, generating analytics that show students exactly where they are losing points and why.

The platform is available for a one-time payment of $9.90. There is no subscription, no upsell, and no premium tier. Competing platforms such as Kaplan, Princeton Review, and UWorld charge between $50 and $200 per month for comparable practice test access, often without the granular timing analytics that MyCollegeBook provides.

"We built this for students worldwide," Shwetank said. "Most of the SAT prep industry is built in the US and priced for US families. International students in China, India, Saudi Arabia, Japan, UAE, and the US are paying the same prices or more, often for materials that aren't designed for their specific strengths and weaknesses."

FROM DATA SCIENCE TO SAT TUTORING

Shwetank holds a B.Tech and M.Tech in Mathematics and Computing from IIT Delhi and an MBA from Indian School of Business. He spent nearly two decades working in data analytics and data science before transitioning to SAT coaching. He scored 1550 on the Digital SAT, including a perfect 800 in Math.

His coaching company, SATPrepIn (satprepin.com), offers one-on-one Digital SAT coaching for Indian students globally. The company has coached more than 1000 students across India, the Middle East, and the United States, with hundreds of students scoring above 1500 on the Digital SAT.

MyCollegeBook was built as a companion to SATPrepIn's coaching practice, initially for internal use. It was opened to the public in early 2026.

"We are publishing many such studies on our platform," Shwetank said. "This is the first for any SAT preparation platform. We have proprietary data that we believe is going to change how students and coaches think about SAT preparation. The question is not how much you study. It is whether you are studying the right thing — and whether you even know where you are losing points."
