Keylong, Lahaul & Spiti – August 2025:
In the spirit of India’s 79th Independence Day, the picturesque Himalayan town of Keylong is all set to host the Tribal Festival Keylong 2025 from 14th to 16th August. This state-level fair, organized by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Lahaul & Spiti, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, TRIFED (Tribes of India), North Zone Cultural Centre, and the Government of Himachal Pradesh, promises a unique celebration of freedom, culture, and eco-conscious living.
Held annually to coincide with Independence Week, the Tribal Festival draws visitors from across India and beyond, eager to experience the colorful traditions, indigenous performances, handcrafted art, and sustainable practices of the region’s tribal communities.
The 2025 edition stands out with its strong focus on zero-waste initiatives, women-led entrepreneurship, and grassroots cultural participation, offering a vibrant mix of folk dances, sports tournaments, food stalls, and eco-awareness drives. Tourists and locals alike will witness how the tribes of Lahaul & Spiti continue to preserve their heritage while embracing modern values of sustainability and inclusivity.
At the helm of this transformative cultural revival is Ms. Kiran Bhadana, IAS, the Deputy Commissioner of Lahaul & Spiti. A 2017-batch officer and alumna of LSR and JNU, Ms. Bhadana is recognized for her progressive vision and efforts in promoting inclusive governance, climate-sensitive development, and responsible tourism in one of India’s most remote districts.
“The Tribal Festival is more than a celebration—it’s a declaration of identity, unity, and our deep respect for both nature and tradition,” says Ms. Bhadana.
With growing interest in eco-tourism and cultural experiences, the festival serves as a platform for regional artisans, women cooperatives, and youth performers to connect with a broader audience and revive age-old customs in a meaningful, modern context.
Whether you're an artist, historian, traveler, or environmentalist, Tribal Festival Keylong 2025 offers an unforgettable Himalayan journey into the soul of tribal India.
