Something's shifting quietly in India's engagement ring market. The three stone ring, once a symbolic choice most couples skipped in favour of a single solitaire, is fast becoming one of the most requested designs of 2026. And the reason isn't really about taste changing, it's about lab created diamonds finally making the style affordable.

The three stone format has always carried meaning, representing a couple's past, present, and future. But it never quite caught on the way solitaires did, largely because of cost. Three well-matched, certified stones cost a lot more upfront than one centre diamond, and most couples simply went with what fit the budget. That barrier is coming down fast. Certified lab created diamonds run 30 to 50 percent cheaper than natural stones of similar quality, which means the three stone look is finally within reach without the price jump it used to demand.

"We're seeing a clear pivot away from single-stone-only requests," said sources within the bridal jewellery segment. "Couples want a ring with a story, and three stones gives them that in a way a solitaire just can't."

The designs themselves are getting more interesting too. Instead of matching round stones straight across, couples are increasingly choosing mixed cuts, an oval or cushion centre stone paired with smaller round or pear-shaped side stones, adding visual contrast on top of the symbolism. Certification still sits at the centre of all this. Buyers are asking for matched IGI or GIA reports across all three stones now, making sure colour and clarity stay consistent throughout, something that matters far more in a three stone setting than it ever would with a single diamond.

Retailers say these rings are increasingly paired with custom engraving and personalised cut combinations, part of a broader move toward engagement rings as personal, story-driven pieces rather than something chosen mainly for size or budget.

Industry watchers expect the trend to keep building through the current wedding season, as lab grown diamonds continue changing what couples can actually afford, without giving up anything on certification, craftsmanship, or design ambition. What used to be an aspirational, higher-budget style is turning into a mainstream one, and it's shaping up to be one of the more notable shifts in India's engagement ring market this year.
