Improved access to safe water and enhanced sanitation to benefit 920 students
Tiruvannamalai, DATE
The Smile Welfare Foundation has undertaken a significant renovation project for the overhead
drinking water tank at Mamandur Government Higher Secondary School in the Tiruvannamalai
district. With a budget of 2.9 lakh rupees, this initiative aims to provide 920 students with
improved access to safe drinking water and promote better sanitation and hygienic practices.
The renovation project, designed to ensure a continuous supply of clean drinking water, will
directly benefit 440 girls and 520 boys from grades 6 to 12. By upgrading the water tank,
installing new pipelines and taps, and maintaining sanitation facilities, the project seeks to reduce
the risk of waterborne diseases and promote a healthier school environment.
Key Benefits:
Enhanced Access to Safe Water: Continuous supply of clean drinking water, reducing
waterborne disease risks.
Improved Sanitation: Upgraded facilities for better sanitation practices.
Promotion of Hygienic Practices: Educational programs to teach students about
hygiene, preventing illnesses, and improving overall health.
The direct beneficiaries of this initiative are the 920 students who will gain improved access to
safe water. This is particularly crucial for girls, as access to clean water and proper sanitation
facilities is essential for maintaining hygiene, especially during menstruation.
Budget Allocation: The allocated budget of 2.9 lakh rupees will cover:
Renovation of the overhead water tank
Installation of new pipelines and taps
Maintenance of sanitation facilities
Educational programs on hygiene and sanitation
