SOMS Energy Victoria is proud to announce its active participation in the Australian Government’s new Cheaper Home Batteries Program, helping Victorian households adopt high-quality battery storage at substantially reduced upfront cost. In this new program, Mr SOMS (Spokesperson, SOMS Energy) will lead the public-facing campaign, promoting access, transparency, and consumer protection.
Under the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, eligible households and small businesses can receive around 30% discount on the upfront cost of installing small-scale battery systems (5 kWh to 100 kWh) attached to new or existing solar installations.
Key Features of SOMS Energy’s Participation
Deep discounts, lower barrier to entry: With government subsidies, SOMS Energy will pass on the discount directly to customers, reducing the upfront cost for battery installations.
High quality & accredited systems: All battery units offered will be from Clean Energy Council (CEC) approved product lists, and installations will be done by SOMS Energy’s accredited technicians in full compliance with safety regulations.
Transparent process & support: Mr SOMS will oversee public communications, ensuring customers understand eligibility, warranty, and technical requirements (e.g. VPP readiness).
Wide availability throughout Victoria: The program will be extended to metropolitan and regional areas, subject to installer accreditation and local compliance.
Consultation & quote service: SOMS Energy will offer free consultations and tailored quotes to help homeowners assess suitable battery sizes and costs.
“This program is a huge win for Victorian households,” said Mr SOMS, spokesperson for SOMS Energy Victoria. “By lowering the cost barrier to battery storage, we can help more people capture solar energy when it’s abundant and use it intelligently to reduce energy bills and increase energy independence.”
Why It Matters
Battery storage plays a critical role in Australia’s clean energy transition: it enables households to store excess solar power for evening use, relieves peak load pressure on the grid, and contributes to greater energy resilience.
Already, more than 50,000 batteries have been installed across Australia under the scheme’s first wave, demonstrating strong consumer demand and confidence in clean energy technology.
Ministers
For Victoria in particular, this rollout aligns with the state’s push toward community storage and distributed energy resources.
Eligibility & How to Participate
To qualify under the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, interested homeowners should note:
Eligible battery systems must have nominal capacity between 5 kWh and 100 kWh.
The discount is typically applied upfront by the installer or retailer.
Only batteries paired with a solar PV system (existing or new) are eligible; systems storing energy solely from the grid are not eligible.
The chosen battery and inverter must be listed on the Clean Energy Council’s approved lists at the time of installation.
Eligible installations must comply with relevant state/territory electrical safety regulations and certification.
Victorians can take the following steps:
Contact SOMS Energy (Victoria) to discuss their home’s solar & energy use profile.
Receive a free consultation and quote from SOMS Energy’s accredited team.
Determine eligibility and choose a battery system from approved products.
Schedule installation — the discount will be applied at point of sale.
