New Delhi, India - 3 January 2026 -
The Government of India has made the BIS Certification of furniture products obligatory in accordance with IS 17632:2022 after the implementation of the Furniture (Quality Control) Order, 2025. The notification states that after February 13, 2026, only furniture with BIS certification may be sold in India

Furniture is widely utilized as part of various workspaces, to include but not limited to the home, workplace, cafe, and institutional workspaces. General-purpose stools

Furniture designed for everyday home and commercial usage

The coming standard lays down standards in terms of strength, load-bearing ability, stability, safety, finish, and endurance based upon testing done in BIS recognized labs.
