A major industry change to the way test reports under the Mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecommunications Equipment (MTCTE) will be accepted. This policy will now permit manufacturers of telecommunications equipment and/or related electronic products, regardless of where they are located, to produce their test report(s) from an ILAC accredited laboratory and will allow for an easier and more accessible path toward obtaining MTCTE compliance certification. The extension of this policy through 30 June 2026 also allows for a much smoother and quicker process regarding the approval of telecommunications equipment by Indian regulators, as it allows for the use of ILAC-accredited test reports coming from anywhere in the world until that time.

What This Means for Telecom Manufacturers

From now until mid-2026, telecom and IoT product manufacturers looking for compliance in India have new choices about which testing services to utilize as evidence of compliance. Key categories of products affected by this new policy include:

Cellular network equipment
VHF/UHF radio systems
Broadband and wireless communication products
Telecommunication devices that have been covered by the MTCTE scheme

To qualify under these extensions, laboratories providing test reports must be accredited by an ILAC MRA-accredited laboratory, and the test report itself may not have been instrumented and issued earlier than two years prior to its submission to the MTCTE portal.
