Sugar Kayne Radio has launched a new fundraising campaign aimed at giving disabled people a stronger voice, supporting disability advocacy, community awareness and the continued growth of one of the UK's most inclusive independent radio stations. The campaign has set a fundraising target of £30,000.
The campaign is driven by the personal experiences of station founder Matthew Kayne, who has cerebral palsy. Having faced serious health challenges, including bladder cancer, as well as difficulties with accessing reliable wheelchair services and barriers to accessing the right support, Matthew has channelled those experiences into building a platform that turns personal challenges into positive action - raising awareness, promoting inclusion and creating space for underrepresented voices across the UK.
Rather than staying silent, Matthew chose to use his voice to help others, campaign for change and grow Sugar Kayne Radio into a platform where disabled people can share their stories, feel represented and know they are not alone.
Matthew Kayne said:
"Living with disability and health challenges has shown me how powerful it is to have a voice and a platform. Sugar Kayne Radio was built on the belief that everyone deserves to be heard. This campaign is about taking that further, creating something bigger than just a radio station, and showing that disabled people have stories, talents and perspectives that the world needs to hear.
“Funds raised will go directly towards accessible broadcasting and media equipment, podcast and radio production, fundraising and development for Sugar Kayne Radio, filming and editing awareness content, travel to interviews, events and community projects, promotional materials and outreach campaigns, social media and website development, and disability awareness initiatives and community engagement.”
Sugar Kayne Radio broadcasts on DAB digital radio across North London, North East and South West Essex, and South Hertfordshire, and is available online and via smart speaker.
