TechShu Launches Dedicated GEO Practice to Help Brands Get Cited Across AI Search Engines

Generative Engine Optimisation service was initiated to fill a measurable gap that was brought up by the fact that Google started measuring AI answer impressions separately from organic ones.

TechShu, a digital marketing agency and Google Premier Partner since 2016, has launched its new Generative Engine Optimisation service today. It is meant to help brands find out how AI search engines currently describe them, fix mistakes and get cited in the answers provided by them.

This move was driven by the changes in the way search visibility is being measured. Starting from 3 June 2026, Google has introduced a Generative AI performance report in Search Console for the first time, thus providing the owners of websites the opportunity to see how often their sites show up within AI Overviews and AI Mode. It provides information on impressions, but no clicks, click-through rate, average position, or keywords. For the first time in 20 years, a marketer will get a notification that his/her brand appeared, but not what the appearance was worth.

As Baisakhi Das, the SEO Head at TechShu, puts it, “Ranking and citation are different engineering challenges, and most brands continue to solve the former one. A page can rank perfectly fine on Google and still be a terrible source of information for any AI to use, since synthesis requires something that ranking never did ask for. The thing is, our clients wanted to know what those AI engines think about them, and nobody was able to provide such an answer before. Until we did.”

What the practice includes

The GEO practice revolves around three layers that TechShu claims need to be addressed successively.

The first criterion is the accuracy of the entity, or whether the AI engines can correctly understand who that particular company is. Since the answer is formed depending on the information about the company found on its own website, its business profile, professional networks, review websites, directories, mentions in media, and other listicles, inconsistency between all these sources will make the model unsure, ignore the brand in the answer, or name another company that matches them.

The second one is the presence of the evidence, which is whether the information about the company can be found on the web.

Third, there is the aspect of extractability, meaning whether a machine can independently extract answers from a webpage. This aspect includes content structures, which is the level at which most agencies think about the process.

Measurements of engagement begin with an audit that focuses on the first six AI surfaces such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, and Copilot - based on a fixed set of prompts indicating purchase intent and measured against mentions, accuracy, sentiment, and citations. In the absence of an equivalent of Search Console on those AI surfaces, the measurement is manually created and maintained monthly, in parallel with Google Search Console AI impression measurements and referred sessions captured through analytics.

Results reporting

According to TechShu, results reporting methodology is deliberately different from the conventional SEO retainers, as the data available will not allow creating a single number to be reported. The client will receive four figures rather than one: AI impressions per page from Search Console’s Generative AI report, the number of assistant referred sessions recorded using analytics, a scored prompt panel, which is a measurement of how each AI describes the brand and whether it cites any sources, and branded search volume, which usually differs before the organic session.

The firm claims that it will take four to eight weeks for entity corrections to show up in AI answers, one to two months for extractability enhancements to appear in Search Console, and two to four quarters for evidence gathering via public relations, published articles and reviews.

Why now?
TechShu has been talking about answer engine optimization for 2025 years and also offers a specific AEO service line. The firm claims that this approach formalizes work that had already been going on within the clients’ projects but was separate from SEO since the question that the client asks has changed.

"Client does not ask us about rankings anymore. Instead, they open ChatGPT during the meeting and ask why it recommended somebody else," said Mouli Basu, Regional Sales Head. "This is a strategic discussion, not a reporting one."

The reason behind the timing also has something to do with the trend of the tool. Google's generative AI reporting has gone live through the beta version and will gradually reach site owners, Microsoft has hinted similar AI performance reporting for its Bing, and the analytics tools are segregating traffic generated by the assistant from regular referral traffic. As per TechShu, AI visibility reporting is shifting from being an expert-level service to an entry in the marketing report, and brands who build up a benchmark now can prove their progress later on; otherwise, they will not have anything to compare their results against.

This offering is available to clients not only within India but in other markets abroad, while the services are provided from their offices located in Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad in India; UK, UAE, USA, and Singapore.
