PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Data from over 10,000 orders placed on Theindiglobal between 2023 and mid-2026 shows a clear and consistent shift in what Indian home buyers want from their bedding breathable fabric, muted colours, and verified artisan-made products over synthetic alternatives.
Gurgaon Haryana, India July 2026 Theindiglobal, an Indian handloom home textiles brand working directly with 50+ artisan families across Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, South India, and Maharashtra, today released its Bedding Trends Report 2026 drawn from purchase data, customer feedback, and repeat order patterns across more than 10,000 orders since the brand launched in 2023.
The report is the first of its kind from a direct-to-artisan Indian handloom brand and covers what Indian buyers are actually choosing when fabric type, size, colour, and occasion are all factored in together.
Key Findings
Handloom cotton is the most reordered product category
Customers who purchased a handloom solid cotton bedsheet returned to buy again at a higher rate than any other product category on the platform. The most common reason cited in feedback the sheet got noticeably softer after washing rather than rougher, which was unexpected for buyers coming from polycotton or microfibre.
King size has overtaken double as the most ordered bedsheet size
For the first time since Theindiglobal launched, king size bedsheets became the highest volume size category in the first half of 2026. Double size held that position consistently through 2023 and 2024. The shift reflects Indian households upgrading to larger mattresses and becoming more aware of proper mattress coverage; a double sheet on a king mattress doesn't tuck properly, and buyers are now ordering by mattress measurement rather than bed frame size.
Navy blue, terracotta, and warm beige are the three top performing colours in 2026
Across all bedsheet orders placed between January and June 2026, these three shades accounted for the highest sales volume. Bright reds and yellows which performed strongly in 2023 have dropped significantly. The shift mirrors the broader Indian interior design move toward muted, earthy palettes that make a bedroom feel calm rather than decorated.
Hand block printed bedsheets are the dominant choice for gifting occasions
For wedding, housewarming, and corporate gifting orders, hand block printed cotton at 400 TC was chosen over solid handloom in the clear majority of purchases. Buyers associate the visible craft of block printing with premium value when the product is intended as a gift even when the price difference between solid and block print options is modest.
Repeat buyers switch fabric they don't switch brand
Among customers who placed a second order, the most common pattern was upgrading from 245 GSM handloom solid to 400 TC hand block printed percale, not moving to a different brand. This suggests the first purchase builds enough trust that the second purchase is an exploration of a different product type rather than a search for an alternative.
Towels and tote bags are the most common cross-category purchase
Customers who purchased bedsheets most frequently added handloom cotton tote bags or hand block printed bath towels to their next order. Both categories use the same cotton and block print craft as bedsheets buyers who understood the fabric quality in a bedsheet extended that trust to accessories.
What the Data Says About Indian Bedding Buyers in 2026
Price sensitivity is shifting
In 2023 and early 2024, the most common customer question before purchase was about price, specifically whether handloom cotton justified a higher price than mass-market alternatives. By mid-2026, that question has become significantly less frequent. Buyers are arriving with more product knowledge checking GSM, asking about thread count, wanting to know the state of origin. The purchase conversation has moved from "why does this cost more" to "what specifically makes this different."
Gifting is a significant purchase driver
A meaningful share of Theindiglobal orders are placed for gifting occasions, weddings, housewarmings, Diwali, and corporate gifting. Handloom and hand block printed textiles occupy a specific position in Indian gifting; they carry craft value and cultural significance that a generic home goods gift doesn't, while still being genuinely useful rather than decorative.
First-time handloom buyers are the fastest growing customer segment
Buyers who explicitly mention in feedback that this was their first handloom purchase represent a growing share of new orders. Most describe the same experience they expected the fabric to feel similar to their existing cotton sheets, and it didn't. The breathability and the softening with washing surprised them. This segment is also the most likely to leave a review and the most likely to refer others.
Founder Comment
Kanika Khulbe, Founder, Theindiglobal:
"We started this in 2023 because we believed there was real demand for genuine handloom products. People just needed to find them and trust them. What 10,000 orders tells us is that the demand was always there. The gap was access and awareness. Buyers who try handloom cotton once almost always come back. The fabric is convincing, we just have to get it in front of people the first time."
