Nutter Butter's Facebook and TikTok pages have gone dark with cryptic, demonic horror content — a villain called the Nutter Butter Man, cookies with human faces, fever-dream videos, and messages like "let; me out." Fans are asking if the brand is okay. Nobody hacked anything. This is the plan.
Since 2023, the 50-plus-year-old Mondelez cookie brand has run one of the strangest social media strategies in corporate history, exploding in September 2024. Creative agency Dentsu Creative, brand manager Caitlin Bolmarcich, and Mondelez digital lead Kelly Amatangelo gave the smaller brand license to experiment that flagships like Oreo never get. The guiding concept, per the New York Times: a Nutter Butter cookie having a fever dream.
The results: nearly 3 million TikTok followers, 87 million views on ten September 2024 videos, a 190% Amazon sales jump, and Ad Age's Creativity Awards 2025 for Best Use of TikTok. When fans asked "are you okay," the brand answered in character: "Are we OK? Depend. YES YES YES."
