Tulip Tree Dental Care, an independently owned dental practice at 51584 Indiana State Route 933 in South Bend, Indiana, marked its 12th anniversary in September 2026. The practice’s founder, Dr. Nicole L. Hurcomb, DDS, known to patients as Dr. Nicci, says continuing education has been part of the work since the day the office opened.

A start in the family practice

Dr. Hurcomb is a third-generation dentist who grew up in northwest Indiana. She began working in her father’s dental office at age 13, spending summers learning how to manage the front office and assist the dentist. She graduated from the Indiana University School of Dentistry and then practiced with her father for a year before moving to South Bend. There she worked at two locations for seven years before opening Tulip Tree Dental Care in September 2014.

Continuing education and professional memberships

Dr. Hurcomb has completed several hundred hours of continuing education, including courses at the Bell Institute. She holds memberships in professional organizations including the American Dental Association, the Indiana Dental Association, the North Central Dental Society, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Chicago Dental Society and the 3rd Coast Study Club.

“Dentistry keeps changing, so I keep learning,” said Dr. Nicci. “Twelve years in, that’s still a big part of how I try to earn patients’ trust.”
