The United Grid League (UGL) will make its Northeast debut Aug. 8-9 as American Dream hosts six matches featuring eight of the league's 10 teams. That same weekend, the UGL will also be featured as part of ESPN's annual The Ocho programming, marking a major milestone for the league and expanding UGL's visibility on one of the country's most recognizable sports platforms.
The UGL is the world's first semi-professional, co-ed team sport, where men and women compete with and against one another in fast-paced, race-style matches that combine strength, gymnastics, speed, endurance and strategy. Every athlete plays a specialized role, creating an exciting spectator experience unlike any traditional team sport.
The races at American Dream come on the heels of one of the most dramatic weekends in league history, and every race carries postseason implications. Lakeland featured the league's first player ejection in five years, multiple officiating reviews that changed race outcomes, historic roster decisions, and several one-point finishes that tightened the standings heading into the regular season's final stretch. This time, the New York Wolves will be playing in front of a hometown crowd after making an impressive league debut earlier this season. Their roster includes athletes from communities across New York and New Jersey, giving local fans hometown athletes to rally behind throughout the weekend.
Now in its 10th season, the UGL features 10 city-based franchises competing across a national schedule, reaching a growing audience of more than 1.9 million social media followers and hundreds of millions of video views across digital platforms.
