People who still feel unwell after routine blood work has come back clear are the focus of a four-stage assessment process published by Vital Health and Natural Medicine, a naturopathy and functional medicine practice in Kealba. The process is available in person in Melbourne's northwest and by video consultation across Australia, the practice reported.
According to the clinic, most of its new patients arrive having already consulted multiple practitioners. Some have received normal pathology results, some hold a diagnosis that leaves part of the picture unexplained, and others have no diagnosis at all.
The framework, which the clinic calls the ROOT Method, moves through Review, Order, Observe and Treat. It begins with an initial appointment of 60 to 90 minutes in which Domenic Pisanelli, who leads the practice, examines the timeline of symptoms, past diagnoses, treatments tried, earlier pathology, specialist reports and current medications, the clinic said.
Where the history points to it, targeted functional tests may follow, including the GI Microbiome Map, the Organic Acids Test (OAT) and hormone testing, according to the practice. Kits are posted to the patient's home and typically arrive within three to five days. Laboratory reports are generally available 10 to 14 days after a sample is received. Patients seen in person may also have Computerised Electrodermal Screening (CEDS), a Zinc Tally Test or iridology where relevant.
Findings are then discussed in a separate results consultation, and a written protocol based on those results is provided with a set sequence and timeline. The clinic reported that the interval from first appointment to written protocol is usually three to four weeks, with progress reviewed at later visits.
Vital Health and Natural Medicine stated that its care is intended to sit alongside a patient's GP, not to replace it. No referral is needed, and naturopathic appointments are not covered by Medicare.
