A Musical Celebration to Remember
As a sub-project of the Boston International Music Competition (BIMC), the BICSC is organized annually by the BIMC Committee and hosted by WeStar Music. Founded by professors from Berklee College of Music, New England Conservatory, Harvard University’s Music Department, and the American WeStar Academy of Contemporary Performing Arts, BIMC has successfully run for three editions, attracting nearly 1,000 contestants from 16 countries and establishing itself as a premier platform for international musical exchange.
The inaugural BICSC featured 39 contestants from China, the United States, and Canada. The competition consisted of two rounds—the preliminary and the final—and covered three vocal categories: classical, folk, and pop. Ultimately, 25 contestants advanced to the finals, 18 competed on-site in Boston, and 14 successfully took the stage at the Winners’ Concert, delivering performances of Chinese songs at a remarkably high artistic level.
A Diverse Stage Across Generations
The performers in this concert ranged in age from 10 to 81, highlighting the timeless and cross-generational appeal of Chinese music. An elderly grandmother impressed the audience with her powerful and skillful singing, earning waves of applause, while an award-winning American white social media influencer, with over 20 million online followers, brought the house down with her outstanding rendition of the challenging song “Joyful Face”.
Notably, Yan Meijiao from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music delivered a stunning performance of the Chinese song “Jiuer”, showcasing the beauty and technical depth of Chinese folk singing, which drew enthusiastic praise from international audiences.
Esteemed Jury Ensures Excellence
The jury panel featured seven distinguished musicians from around the world, chaired by Professor James Odell—music educator, conductor, and former Associate Dean of the Boston Conservatory. Other jurors included renowned Chinese folk singer Zhang Mingjie, American soprano Olga Lisovska, Berklee College of Music professor Rebecca Perricone, Chinese sopranos Xu Jingjing and Xiao Bing (Ph.D.), and American coloratura soprano Lian Yan. Their expertise ensured the competition’s fairness and high artistic standards.

The success of the BICSC would not have been possible without the dedication of our esteemed jury, the hard work of staff and volunteers, and the generous support of our audience, sponsors, and friends.
Music lights up the stage, and passion turns dreams into reality! While this year’s celebration has come to an end, the music lives on. We look forward to an even more spectacular BICSC next year!
