Mapping the Reading Brain: Insights That Shape Education.

Posted May 5, 2026 by andrewmandela

Grateful for the Troland Research Award recognizing research that maps brain development and informs better teaching strategies and learning systems.

Mapping the brain is not just about understanding structure—it’s about understanding function. My work has focused on how brain regions involved in reading interact and evolve over time.

These insights have practical implications. They help us understand why certain teaching methods work and why others do not. They also provide a scientific basis for improving educational practices.

One of the most exciting aspects of this research is its potential to influence policy. By providing evidence-based insights, we can support decisions that improve education at a systemic level.

This award is a recognition of the progress we’ve made, but also a reminder of how much more there is to discover.
