A professional career has many stages, and each contributes to a larger accumulation of knowledge. Lassy LL Chiwayo's entry into authorship is the next stage in a career that has spanned political activism, government, municipal governance and diplomacy.
He was actively involved in the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa, so he was part of the political struggle of the 1980s. There are historical records of his imprisonment at Robben Island and his release in 1990.
After the country's first democratic elections, Chiwayo pursued a public career in the Mpumalanga province, working in provincial political institutions and in municipal government.
He was a South African government address in 2009 welcomed him as the new Mayor of Mbombela Local Municipality, especially with the local council managing preparations for matches at the 2010 FIFA World Cup hosted by South Africa. The address described Mbombela's achievements in 2009, along with the Municipal Financial Management Act. The Citizen subsequently identified him in 2025 as the incumbent mayor of the municipality and former consul-general to China.
This experience was supplemented by international work as South Africa's consul-general in Shanghai. Political advocacy, government, municipal governance and diplomacy would be the next stages in a career capable of publishing experiences in global or local contexts.
