A career on many public institutions can make for a diverse record, worth publishing. From political, municipal, governmental, diplomatic and now authorial experience; lassy LL chiwayo has had a lengthy, well-rounded career to tell.

His early political development took root in the old South African apartheid state. Chiwayo's active engagement with the liberation movement, got him remanded in custody by the apartheid authorities in 1985 and detained on Robben Island between 1987 and 1990.

Immediately after the democratic transition he was an elected member of the Mpumalanga Province National Assembly seat in 1994 and served his province as the elected province senator until 1996.

He thereafter occupied the provincial office of the MEC of Sports, Culture and Recreation; before also taking on the provincial accountabilities of the finance MEC from 1997 until 1999. He was then elected Chief Whip of the Mpumalanga Legislature until 2001.

He then headed the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD) DFC in Mpumalanga Province before proceeding with regional organisational initiatives. This was followed by a stin stint as Executive Mayor of the Mbombela Local Municipality in the Mpumalanga Province for 2008 to 2011.

This stint coincided with the period that the present democracy's hosting of the 2010 FIFA World Cup period unfolded and helped to place local governance and development – and hosting of international events – in the same chapter as the professional administrator.

He then proceeded as High Commissioner attached to Central East Asia and to regional organisations during 2011 – 2012
