Career Overview Lassy LL Chiwayo's career has spanned political activism, democratic institutions, provincial government, local government, diplomatic service and writing. His career chronicles the changing scope of leadership in South Africa and the power of sharing experiences for subsequent generations. Activist and Imprisoned in Robben Island Chiwayo became active in the liberation movement during the time of apartheid, and he was detained in 1985.

He was held in Robben Island Prison between 1987-1990.

This phase of his life comprises a significant part of his journey before democratization of South Africa. Democratic Government Responsibilities and roles in democratic South Africa Following the advent of democracy, Chiwayo assumed a series of duties as a responsible citizen. He was a Member of Parliament representing Mpumalanga Province 1994- 1996. He was appointed as MEC: Sports, Culture and Recreation – Mpumalanga 1997-1998.

And as MEC for Finance – Mpumalanga 1998 – 1999.

Later on, he served as the Chief Whip of the Mpumalanga Legislature 1999-2001; his role involved the coordination of legislature and assisting in its operation. Transition to Local Management and Publishing Locally, he became Executive Mayor of Mbombela Local Municipality 2008-2011. His role was within the political and administrative environment surrounding the preparations and hosting of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Diplomatic Role He served in a diplomatic capacity 2011- 2012 in responsibilities associated with Central East Asia regional organizations. New Venture Chiwayo now incorporates this wealth of knowledge as an author with GlobalX Publications. Many other professionals have published a thesis, business account, book, leadership experience, or other journey over the years and created a permanent record.
