The research points to a broader shift in 2026: integration success is no longer measured by whether two systems sync data, but by whether connected workflows remove costly delays in the lead-to-cash journey. With 88% of organizations now using AI in at least one business function and over 60% still experimenting with agentic AI, unclear data ownership between CRM and ERP systems is emerging as a primary blocker to scaling automation reliably.

Common warning signs include sales teams asking finance for inventory or invoice status, duplicate customer records across systems, and manual re-entry after a deal closes. Businesses that address lead-to-customer, quote-to-order, and order-to-cash handoffs first tend to see the clearest return, provided they define data ownership and exception handling before scaling automation further.
