ORLANDO, Fla. — Ultrarunner and father of two Brady McDonald is attempting something that has never been done: running a 50K, or 31 miles, in all 50 U.S. states over 50 consecutive days.

The attempt began in Orlando, Florida, and is scheduled to finish in Hawaii. Across the 50 days, McDonald will run a total of 1,553 miles while his family and production crew cover nearly 13,000 miles of driving between states. There are no scheduled rest days.

The goal is to raise $1 million benefiting Make-A-Wish® and help grant 100 wishes for children with critical illnesses. Fundraising has surpassed $400,000.

Each day follows the same pattern. McDonald runs for approximately five to seven hours, then the family drives an average of 3.9 hours to the next state before he starts again the following morning. Most stops begin with a free community Sunrise Wish Run, where local residents are invited to join him for a 5K, 10K, half marathon, or as much of the 50K as they choose. Local run clubs have joined him at stops across the country.

McDonald is not attempting the mission alone. His wife, Kristy, who survived a boating accident at age 15 that resulted in the loss of one arm, is traveling through every state with him, along with their daughters Kylie, 12, and Lexi, 5. Both girls are active participants in the daily mission and its storytelling rather than passengers along for the ride.

Before this attempt, McDonald had already raised over $300,000 benefiting Make-A-Wish® by completing a 300-mile ultramarathon through the Arizona desert

Camping World is supporting the national tour. A professional production crew is documenting the full journey as a 50-part YouTube series, with one new episode released every day of the run.
The campaign has drawn local news coverage at stops along the route, including reports from public radio and network affiliates in multiple markets.
