Independent filmmaker and horror machinima creator Alvin Soprano has become the target of an impersonation attack online, with a fake BlueSky account using her former handle gaining over 3,000 followers before being flagged and removed.
The impersonator account, @alvinsoprano, surfaced nearly two weeks ago and rapidly gained traction. The handle had previously belonged to Soprano herself but was deleted back in April. The link, however, remained on her official website and YouTube, making the fake account appear legitimate.
A fan account, @alvinsopranoworld, alerted Alvin’s team after noticing suspicious behavior. Alvin’s agent, Helen Gaard, confirmed the account was not affiliated with Soprano. Shortly after, the impersonator received an “impersonation” warning badge and the account was taken down by the platform.
On the same day, Alvin Soprano’s Instagram account was hacked, with her access revoked after the attacker reportedly changed both her email and password.
“It’s likely the same individual behind both actions,” said Gaard. “They saw the opportunity in the abandoned BlueSky handle, then targeted her verified Instagram to create further confusion.”
Soprano’s team is currently working with Instagram to restore control of the account. In the meantime, Alvin has no active presence on BlueSky, Twitter, Threads, or TikTok.
