Boston, MA, June 2025 - The Boston International Music Competition (BIMC) is proud to announce that Nona Javakhidze, the internationally celebrated mezzo-soprano and soloist of Opéra National de Paris, will serve on its distinguished panel of judges for the 2025 competition finals.
A revered name on the European operatic stage, Ms. Javakhidze brings decades of vocal mastery and global stage experience to BIMC. She has performed principal roles in leading opera houses such as the Opéra National de Paris, Opéra National de Bordeaux, Opéra de Marseille, Opéra de Nice, Opéra de Geneve, and beyond.
Ms. Javakhidze’s vast repertoire includes signature roles in Verdi, Tchaikovsky and Bizet, such as Amneris (Aida), Eboli (Don Carlo), Carmen (Carmen), Maddalena (Rigoletto), Mrs. Quickly (Falstaff), Filipievna and Madame Larina (Eugene Onegin), and The Governess (Pique Dame). She has performed alongside world-renowned conductors and artists such as Michel Plasson, Mariss Jansons, Renée Fleming, Brandon Jovanovich, Marco Armiliato, and Philippe Jordan, among others.
In addition to her musical achievements, Ms. Javakhidze is a medical doctor. She chose in 1999 to dedicate herself fully to a life in opera, a decision that has inspired artists around the world. Several years ago Nona joined Conservatoire Municipal Frédéric Chopin Paris XV as a professor of voice.
BIMC is honored to welcome such an accomplished artist and mentor to its panel of judges. Her presence adds exceptional depth and international perspective to the competition’s mission of supporting and elevating young talent across the globe.

Adding to the excitement of her appearance in Boston, Nona Javakhidze will also make her long awaited United States debut just days after the BIMC finals. She will perform in the concert Deux Voix: A Paris–Boston Reunion in Song on Friday, July 26th at 5:00 PM at the House of Arts in Gloucester, MA. The concert will reunite her with soprano Olga Lisovska, her former classmate at the École Normale de Musique de Paris, for a beautiful evening of French repertoire.
