Hiram Animal Hospital welcomes back Dr. Chris Johnson, DVM, to its veterinary team. A former Hiram Animal Hospital veterinarian returning to day practice after years in emergency medicine, Dr. Johnson brings a combination of relationship-driven day practice experience and critical-care expertise to pets and families across Hiram, Dallas, Nebo, and the surrounding Paulding and Cobb County communities.
Dr. Johnson earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1994 and moved to the Atlanta area in 1995. He worked full-time at Hiram Animal Hospital from 2006 to 2016, treating the community's dogs, cats, and pocket pets alongside a team he came to know well.
For most of his career, Dr. Johnson has worked as an emergency clinician across Atlanta and northern Georgia. That path led him to a Medical Director position at a specialty and emergency practice, a role he held until earlier this year, when he decided to step back from the emergency world and return to day practice. Hiram Animal Hospital, where his day-medicine roots had first taken hold, was the practice he chose to return to.
Now back at Hiram, Dr. Johnson rejoins a team led by co-owner Dr. David Carpenter and fellow veterinarians Dr. Wendy Meeker, Dr. Lars Cook, Dr. Erica Bell, and Dr. Alana Joseph. He brings a combination of the calm, relationship-driven approach of a longtime day practitioner and the sharp instincts and critical-care experience built over years of emergency work.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Johnson is the father of three adult children from his first marriage, and he is currently engaged to Rebecca, whom he describes as amazing and talented. His hobbies include collecting vintage toys from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. He also serves as merchandising lead and official roadie for the classic rock band Don't Tell Danny, fronted by his fiancée and featuring his two adult daughters as backup singers.
For longtime clients of Hiram Animal Hospital who remember Dr. Johnson from his earlier years at the practice, his return offers a welcome reunion.
