Jazz Launches Commercial 5G Services. Pakistan has entered the 5G era as Jazz, Pakistan leading digital communications services provider, launched its Commercial 5G services. The launch of 5G services by Jazz follows the issuance of the Next Generation Mobile Services (NGMS) license by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
The signing ceremony for the license was attended by key government officials and senior industry figures. Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Chairman PTA, Maj. Gen. (Retd.) Hafeez Ur Rehman and senior officials from Jazz attended the ceremony. The presence of key officials underscored the significance of the launch for Jazz as well as for Pakistan’s connectivity vision.
Nationwide Coverage, Phase by Phase
Jazz 5G will initially cover around 180 sites in 8 major cities of Pakistan, such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan and Faisalabad. Customers with compatible handsets can enjoy Jazz 5G service FREE of charge in these 8 cities.
In the first phase of the launch, Jazz 5G has been enabled at 180-odd sites across eight major cities in the country. These eight major cities include Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan and Faisalabad. The rest of the cities shall be added in due course. In the meantime, the same investment shall also be channelled to further strengthen the Jazz 4G network in all cities where 5G has not yet been launched to deliver the best possible experience to all customers.
A Spectrum Advantage Unmatched in the Market
Jazz’s spectrum holding is critical to its 5G readiness. Recently, PTA concluded the much-awaited spectrum auction. In this auction, Jazz acquired the largest number of spectrum held by any operator in the country. In terms of frequency bands, Jazz acquired licenses in 4 key bands: 700 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2600 MHz, and 3500 MHz. Importantly, Jazz is the only operator in Pakistan that has acquired spectrum in all 4 key frequency bands, hence holding spectrum in every available frequency layer. Lower frequency bands provide wide coverage, while higher frequency bands provide huge capacity. Hence, holding in all 4 frequency layers provides a unique combination of wide coverage and huge capacity. This would ensure that Jazz’s network is not only more resilient but also well-equipped to handle future challenges.
