Toronto, ON, September 18, 2026 — Author, editor, curator and immigrant Preethi Balasubramanian joins Shairose Gulamani, Kerstin Decook, Anurika Onyenso, Prenaka Ram, Ronnie Loaiza, Dr Fatemeh Rezaei-Sajadinia, Mykim Tran, Saren Keang, Dr Aninda Sidhana, First Lady Swinton, Glenis Moss, Karla Espinoza, Jeannette Harrington, Symone Armstead, in Voices Across Borders: Becoming Here, an anthology centered on women's experiences of migration, identity, and belonging. Through personal stories shaped by culture, family, education, careers, language, and ancestry, the collection looks beyond migration as a change of location. Instead, it examines the deeply human process of building a life while carrying the memories, values, traditions, and identities of the places that came before.

Structured around four movements, The Leaving, The Landing, The In-Between, and The Becoming, Voices Across Borders: Becoming Here captures experiences that often remain hidden behind the simple statement that someone moved. Some contributors crossed oceans, while others navigated boundaries between cultures, generations, professions, or personal identities. Their stories consider what people carry when they leave, what changes after arrival, and how expectations evolve as a new life takes shape. Together, the narratives reveal that feeling at home is often a gradual process rather than a single defining moment.

For Preethi, the anthology grew from a recognition that immigrant women's stories deserve to be heard, preserved, and passed to future generations. Drawing from her own perspective as an immigrant, mother, author, and business owner, she understands migration as a process involving far more than arrival. Rebuilding careers, raising families, maintaining cultural roots, and establishing a sense of belonging can all become part of that transition.
