NEW YORK, NY, October 21, 2026: Many founders stop working after they sell their company. Jacob Adoni, the New York entrepreneur known as Jay Adoni, went back to the books.
After Pentland Brands acquired his fashion brand LJ Simone in 1993, he entered the securities industry. Over the following years he earned his Series 7, Series 63 and Series 24 licenses, the qualifications that allow a professional to trade securities, work across state lines and supervise other brokers.
For someone who had arrived in the United States at 17 with little English, and whose formal training came from shoe factories rather than business school, the licenses were a personal milestone. They showed the same habit that built LJ Simone: learn fast, then act.
Finance also shaped what he did next. With a broker's understanding of value, he became a licensed real estate broker in 1995 and developed supermarket and retail properties in New York, including a well known site in Glen Cove.
He has never left footwear for long. In 2007 he founded PLV Studio, and today he works in his own shoe factory in Brooklyn while running a rare coin business.
