Maruti Suzuki is expanding its Gurugram traffic management system with 1,000 cameras across 70 junctions and nine road stretches. The Rs 75 crore project will help detect traffic violations.

Maruti Suzuki has announced the second phase of its Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) in Gurugram. The expansion will add 1,000 cameras integrated with radar systems across around 70 junctions and nine road stretches covering 65 km. The project is being carried out with the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and Gurugram Police.
With Phase 2, the total deployment will reach 1,400 cameras and radar units across 93 junctions and 13 road stretches. Phase 1 covered 23 junctions and four road stretches with 400 units. Maruti Suzuki has allocated around Rs 75 crore under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme for both phases combined.

The system will help authorities detect traffic violations such as red-light jumping, over-speeding, wrong-side driving, riding without a helmet and triple riding. It uses automatic number plate recognition to identify vehicles involved in these offences.
When a violation is detected, the system records the vehicle's registration number and sends the data to GMDA's Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC). Authorities can then use the information to take enforcement action. The expanded network will also improve traffic monitoring and coordination between enforcement agencies.

Shri P.C. Meena, IAS, Chief Executive Officer, Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority, said, “GMDA is committed to building a robust, technology-driven surveillance network to strengthen traffic management and road safety across Gurugram. The expansion of CCTV coverage in collaboration with Maruti Suzuki India Limited and Gurugram Police will enable more effective traffic monitoring, strengthen enforcement of traffic rules and promote greater road discipline. Connecting the CCTV network with GMDA’s Integrated Command and Control Centre will further enhance real-time surveillance, improve coordination among enforcement agencies and facilitate quicker action against traffic violations, contributing to safer roads for all commuters.”
Mr. Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “We are pleased to further strengthen our partnership with GMDA and the Gurugram Traffic Police in advancing road safety through technology-driven interventions. This advanced tracking system addresses issues like riding without helmets, triple riding, red-light violations, over-speeding, and wrong-side driving. These violations highlight a critical road-safety challenge, as human error continues to be the leading cause of road accidents in India. The findings reinforce the need for sustained, collaborative efforts to improve compliance with traffic regulations and foster safe road behaviour.”

Mr. Bharti added, “Improving road safety requires a combination of responsible driving, robust driving license testing and effective traffic enforcement. We are committed to working alongside authorities in these areas to build a safer mobility ecosystem."
The Gurugram project follows Maruti Suzuki's Traffic Safety Management System in Delhi. The company is also working to expand ITMS to other states.
