Independent Afrosounds Artist Samuel Vibe Breaks Down New Sonic Era in Exclusive Interview

LAGOS, NIGERIA — The global expansion of African music is no longer just a trend; it is a permanent shift in the musical landscape. At the forefront of the independent movement driving this evolution from the roots is Tobi Samuel, professionally known to a rapidly growing global audience as Samuel Vibe.

Born on May 26, 1998, in Lagos, Nigeria, the multi-talented singer, songwriter, and music instructor has quietly built an unshakeable foundation for his craft. Rooted heavily in the rich, rhythmic foundations of Afrosounds and Afropop, Samuel Vibe has carved out a distinct identity marked by sonic clarity, compelling storytelling, and an uncompromising dedication to digital independence.

In this exclusive interview, Samuel Vibe opens up about his journey, the architecture of his sound, and what it truly means to be a self-directed artist in today's fast-paced music industry.

Q: To start, tell us about the origin of Samuel Vibe. How did your background shape the music you create today?

Samuel Vibe: My journey started with a deep, inescapable love for pure sound. Growing up in Lagos, you are constantly surrounded by rhythm—it’s in the air, the traffic, the culture. My legal name is Tobi Samuel, but when I step up to create, I become Samuel Vibe because that is exactly what I deliver: a distinct energy, a mood, a feeling that connects deeply with whoever is listening.

Being born in May 1998 means I grew up right alongside the explosion of modern African pop music. I didn't just listen to it; I studied it. I learned the technical sides of music, taught others, and realized that to make an impact, your sound has to be authentic. That’s why I don't chase trends. I focus strictly on pure Afrosounds—music that carries weight, soul, and a global appeal.

Q: You have consistently chosen to remain independent. What does independence mean to you as an artist?

Samuel Vibe: Independence means absolute creative and professional freedom. When you are independent, you are the architect of your own career. You oversee your distribution, you control your masters, and you speak directly to your audience without a corporate middleman filtering your voice.

It takes an incredible amount of discipline. You have to understand metadata, digital distribution, branding, and how the global stores operate. But when a track connects with thousands of people globally, knowing you built that bridge yourself as an independent artist—there is no better feeling.

Q: How would you describe your signature sound to someone discovering your music for the very first time?

Samuel Vibe: It is vibrant, intentional, and heavily rhythmic. I call my genre Afrosounds because it captures the vastness of African rhythm without boxing me into a single lane. It’s music built on high-energy percussion mixed with smooth, atmospheric melodies. Whether it’s an upbeat anthem or a reflective track, the core of my music is always about creating an undeniable vibe that lingers long after the song ends.

Q: What is next on the horizon for Samuel Vibe? What should your listeners look out for?

Samuel Vibe: Right now, it is all about expansion and scaling up the catalog. I am consistently in the studio cooking up new frequencies and expanding my reach across global streaming platforms. We are consolidating the digital footprint, ensuring the branding matches the high quality of the music, and preparing for releases that will push the boundaries of independent Afrosounds. The goal remains the same: staying true to the craft, elevating the culture, and taking this vi
