Music distribution platform gives artists a direct route to Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music and more while they keep ownership of their music

October 9, 2026. Tunefry, a music distribution platform for independent artists and labels, is helping creators publish their songs on major streaming services at a time when the audience for recorded music has never been larger. Music distribution, the process of delivering a song, its artwork and its rights data to streaming platforms and digital stores, remains the one step every independent artist must complete before a listener can press play.

The scale of that audience is clear. According to the IFPI Global Music Report 2026, global recorded music revenue reached US$31.7 billion in 2025, up 6.4 percent, marking the eleventh consecutive year of growth. Paid subscription streaming grew 8.8 percent and now accounts for 52.4 percent of global revenue, with 837 million paid subscribers worldwide.

Why the release process matters more now

Streaming platforms do not accept uploads directly from individual artists. They work with distributors that can supply correctly formatted audio, clean metadata and accurate credits, and that can report earnings back to rights holders. A mistake at this stage, such as an inconsistent artist name or non-compliant artwork, can delay a release or split an artist's profile across two pages.

The bar for earning from a release has also risen. Since April 2024, Spotify has required a track to reach 1,000 streams within 12 months before it generates recording royalties. The rule applies to recording royalties only, and Spotify has said its publishing royalty calculation is unchanged. For new artists, this means a release needs an audience plan before launch day, not after it.

What artists can do with Tunefry

Through Tunefry, artists upload their master, cover art and credits in one dashboard, choose a release date and send the release to their selected platforms. Tunefry recommends preparing releases two to four weeks before launch. That window leaves time to correct any flagged issue, claim artist profiles on each platform, and submit new tracks for editorial consideration through tools such as Spotify for Artists.

Practical advice for first-time releases

Tunefry's guidance for artists preparing a first release is straightforward. Use one exact spelling of the artist name on every release. Confirm that every sample, beat and cover has the right license before submitting. Credit all songwriters and producers correctly so payments reach the right people. Register compositions with a publisher or collecting society, since a distributor collects recording royalties but does not automatically collect publishing income. And never buy streams, because streaming fraud can lead to takedowns and puts an artist's account at risk.
