Winnipeg, Canada – July 18, 2026 Experimental filmmaker Judah Iyunade's Àwọ̀ ojú ọ̀run / The Colour of the Sky continues to gain international recognition following its world premiere at Prismatic Ground 2026. After debuting at the New York-based festival, the film was also screened at the Independent and Experimental Film Festival of Kerala, where it further connected with audiences drawn to bold and unconventional storytelling.
Rooted in Yoruba culture and spirituality, Àwọ̀ ojú ọ̀run / The Colour of the Sky explores grief, memory, and the relationship between the living and the ancestral world. The story follows a family searching for answers after their grandmother's mysterious disappearance. As they confront their loss, the comforting stories that once protected the younger generation begin to give way to deeper truths about her final journey.
Blending poetic imagery with experimental filmmaking, the film imagines the space between life and death through the lens of Yoruba spiritual traditions. Burial rituals become moments of reflection and guidance, inviting viewers into a meditation on remembrance, family, and the enduring connection between generations.
"We wanted to create something that honors the spiritual weight of memory, ancestry, and the stories we inherit," said filmmaker Judah Iyunade. "The response from audiences at Prismatic Ground and Kerala has been incredibly meaningful. It's encouraging to see that even deeply personal and culturally specific stories can resonate across different communities."
With its distinctive visual language and thoughtful exploration of identity, loss, and tradition, Àwọ̀ ojú ọ̀run / The Colour of the Sky continues its international festival journey. The filmmaking team is also exploring distribution opportunities to bring the film to wider audiences through digital and streaming platforms.
