Aerostratospheric Shares Web Host Hostinger's Statement on the New PHP Vulnerability

Olney, Illinois-based Aerostratospheric is sharing what its web host, Hostinger, told customers on Oct. 26, 2026 about the new PHP vulnerability, for people who rely on its open data and xDataHub.

OLNEY, Ill., Oct. 26, 2026 – Olney, Illinois-based Aerostratospheric today shared an update from its web host, Hostinger, about a newly disclosed vulnerability in PHP, the programming language behind much of the web.

Hostinger told customers in an email on Oct. 26, 2026 that it tested the vulnerability against its live servers and "found it can't be used to take over websites hosted with us, including WordPress sites." Hostinger gave three reasons: its shared hosting "runs on LiteSpeed, which handles requests differently than the attack expects, so the malicious trigger never fires"; "on our newer platform, the vulnerable PHP feature is turned off"; and "each website runs under its own limited account, so even a successful attack couldn't reach the server or other customers' websites."

Hostinger said PHP has since released a security fix and that, "even though our platform wasn't affected," Hostinger applied the fix across all hosting on Oct. 21, 2026 "as an extra layer of protection." Hostinger said "the update is now complete" and that customers didn't need to do anything because it was applied automatically.

Aerostratospheric did not run its own tests; the statements above are Hostinger's, about its own servers and platform. Aerostratospheric is sharing them because researchers, educators and local weather groups rely on the open atmospheric data it publishes on xDataHub, its open data board at https://www.midwestsds.com/msds-data-hub.html, and on its websites.

Aerostratospheric is not affiliated with Hostinger, and Hostinger has not endorsed this release.
