LinkedIn profile of Lassy LL Chiwayo The professional dimension of Lassy LL Chiwayo's profile has been built through the process of involvement in the major political and institutional developments in South Africa. This has included the liberation struggle, democracy, provincial administration, local authority management, diplomatic service and publishing. His years as part of the liberation movement, resulted in a prison term on Robben Island, following his arrest in 1985 and his release in 1990 until the first democratic elections in 1994.

This new phase in his career was heralded by his appointment as a Senator in the national parliament 1994-1996 and as MEC for Sports, Culture and Recreation 1996-97 before assuming the responsibility for the provincial finances of the province of Mbombela as MEC for Finance 1997- 1999.

After a short spell as Chief Whip of the Mbombela Legislature 1999-2001, his professional responsibilities covered a wide terrain of legislative processes and administrative processes, financial management and leadership, cultural focus and public influence. His experience at the local-government level as Executive Mayor of the Mbombela Local Municipality from 2008 to 2011, coincided with the municipality's hosting of the 2010 FIFA World Cup tournament and with a broader development mandate and focus. Subsequently, he assumes a new role of carrying diplomatic responsibilities related to Central East Asia and regional organisations 2011-2012.
