Baar (September 16, 2026) – SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 123.26, highlighting the International Organization for Standardization (ISO)’s publication of ISO 8124-5:2026, ‘Safety of Toys – Part 5: Determination of total concentration of certain elements in toys’.
This second edition of the standard updates the test methods used to determine the total concentration of eight elements in toys – antimony, arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, lead, mercury and selenium. It cancels and replaces the 2015 edition and has applied since August 2026.
SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders across the toy supply chain informed about regulatory changes that could impact their business. SafeGuardS 123.26 includes details of the changes introduced in this edition, including revised digestion methods, updated detection limits and a new EDXRF screening method for plastic toys. The standard may also be used to support migration testing decisions under ISO 8124-3 and equivalent standards such as EN 71-3 and ASTM F963.
Stakeholders are encouraged to read SafeGuardS 123.26 for more details.
